Day 27: November 13th

Our neighborhood has a small produce store that is run completely on the honor system. The price of each item is clearly labeled, and there is a tray for you to leave your money. If you need to make change, you may from whatever is already there. There are NO CASHIERS or workers of any sort!

Y. told us that in her city of Nara, an experiment was done in which one such store counted up all its inventory after a full week of business and found that customers were 100% honest. Not a yen was missing. I hate to think of what would happen to a store like this back home!

Also, here's a video of the boys yukking it up together.

That is so insane--the self-help store. BUT, in Iowa, we used to leave our corn stand (we sold corn on our front porch in the summer) unattended when we had something else to do (which was often) and people would drop money in the shoe box and take their corn (dollar a dozen). During my whole childhood, the box was never stolen.

I am happy to see that my nephews are continuing a great Cesario tradition - laughing hysterically over nothing! They are adorable!
